Four Children. Four Different Stories. One Shared Hope.
War can change childhood in an instant. Yet even in the midst of conflict, hope can still grow.
Every child affected by war has a story of resilience, courage, and hope.
The ongoing war in Ukraine has changed the lives of countless families. For many children, the loss of a parent or the disruption of family life has created profound challenges affecting their safety, emotional well-being, education, and future opportunities.
Yet these children are not defined by what they have endured. They continue to learn, grow, and dream about brighter futures with remarkable strength.
Through trusted partnerships with local educators and community leaders, Striving For All continues to support children affected by the war. Our work extends beyond education to creating safe learning environments and opportunities that help children heal, build resilience, and experience hope despite ongoing conflict.
Today, we are honored to share the stories of four remarkable children whose courage reminds us why investing in young people matters.
Growing Through Adversity
Although each child’s journey is unique, they all share one thing in common: they continue moving forward despite profound personal loss.
Meet Solomiia
Solomiia is an active, creative, and determined fifth-grade student with a strong sense of responsibility. She enjoys participating in school activities, cultural events, and intellectual competitions while pursuing her passion for dance and learning to play the bandura, a traditional Ukrainian musical instrument. She also takes great pride in Ukraine’s history and traditions.
Although she lost her father, Solomiia continues to move forward with courage, resilience, and hope. Her story reminds us that even after profound loss, children can continue to grow when surrounded by encouragement, opportunity, and the support of a caring community.
Meet Diana
Diana is a kind, curious, and determined young student who embraces learning, cares deeply for those around her, and grows more confident each year. She continues to discover the world with warmth, compassion, and an inner strength that helps her face life’s challenges.
After losing her father in the war, Diana continues to face the future with hope and courage. Supported by those who care for her, she demonstrates that resilience is not about forgetting hardship—it is about finding the strength to keep moving forward.
Meet Alika and Alexander
Alika and Oleksandr are close siblings who find strength in one another. Curious, thoughtful, and full of energy, they enjoy learning, exploring the world around them, and supporting each other as they grow more independent.
Without parental support, they are being raised by their grandmother, a devoted teacher whose unwavering love and care have made her both their guardian and greatest source of strength.
This summer marked several unforgettable milestones for them. It was their first vacation, their first journey by train, and their first opportunity to attend a camp filled with exciting activities and new experiences.
Their story is a powerful reminder of the essential role families, caregivers, educators, and community organizations play in helping children overcome adversity.
More Than Individual Stories
Although their stories are different, Solomiia, Diana, Alika, and Oleksandr share the same determination to keep learning, growing, and dreaming despite the challenges surrounding them.
Their stories are deeply personal, but they also reflect the experiences of thousands of children across Ukraine whose lives have been profoundly affected by war.
These children remind us that recovery requires more than protection from immediate danger. They need safe places to learn, opportunities to continue their education, emotional support, and moments of joy that help them heal and build brighter futures.
This is why Striving For All works alongside local partners to help children heal, learn, and thrive.
How Your Support Is Changing Lives
For children living through war, rebuilding hope requires more than emergency support. It requires safe places to learn, opportunities to continue their education, and experiences that help them heal and look toward the future.
Through trusted partnerships with local educators and community leaders, Striving For All is investing in children’s safety, education, and well-being.
Creating Safe Spaces for Learning
When air raid sirens sound, students must immediately leave their classrooms and seek shelter.
To help protect children and school personnel, Striving For All funded the construction of a bomb shelter in a large school in Kyiv. Designed to accommodate up to 500 children, the shelter provides a protected space during air raid alerts while helping schools continue learning whenever conditions allow.
This investment represents far more than physical infrastructure. It gives families greater peace of mind, strengthens the school’s emergency preparedness, and helps children remain connected to their education despite the realities of war.
Expanding Access to Education
Education provides children with stability, confidence, and hope during uncertain times.
To strengthen learning opportunities, Striving For All funded the creation of a Smart Classroom equipped with modern technology that supports interactive teaching and digital learning. Designed to serve up to 700 children each year, the classroom expands access to quality education while helping students develop the digital skills needed for the future.
Together, these investments help children stay safe today while preparing them for tomorrow.
Supporting Children's Well-Being
Healing extends beyond the classroom.
Striving For All supports children’s emotional and physical well-being through art therapy, nutritional support, and summer camp experiences that restore joy, confidence, and a sense of normalcy.
This year, many of the children featured in this story attended summer camp through Striving For All’s support, giving them an opportunity to step away from the realities of war, build friendships, explore new places, and simply enjoy being children.
For some, the experience marked several unforgettable firsts.
Natalia Maievska, the school principal, shared this message after the children returned:
Her words remind us that supporting children goes beyond education. Moments of joy, creativity, discovery, and normal childhood experiences play a vital role in helping young people heal from trauma and regain hope for the future.
All of our children returned from camp happy and full of joy. I sincerely thank you for every one of them, especially the brother and sister, Alika and Oleksandr. It was their very first vacation, their first train journey, and their first experience attending a camp filled with so many activities. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
