Striving For All

Empowering Girls in Tech at the Thrive Center

More than 30 girls in Douala are preparing to compete on the international stage.

At our Thrive Center in Douala, Cameroon, Striving For All continues to invest in the next generation of young women in technology. As participants prepare for the Technovation international competition this April, they are developing solutions that address real challenges in their communities.

Access to technology, mentorship, and hands-on learning remains critical in ensuring that young girls are not left behind in a rapidly evolving digital world.

Building Skills Through Real-World Innovation

Through the Girls in Tech program, over 30 participants are actively designing and developing impact-driven solutions. These projects go beyond learning basic technical skills and focus on applying technology to solve meaningful problems.

Key initiatives include Mum HealthCare, a returning project that reached the semi-finals of last year’s Technovation international competition and is now being further enhanced. Another team is developing a solution focused on Sickle Cell Disease, inspired by personal experience and aimed at supporting affected families.

These projects are developed in partnership with Technovation, with the support of Striving For All staff and dedicated volunteers.

What the Program Delivers

Participants are gaining practical experience in:

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Innovation and product development
  • Leadership and teamwork

This hands-on approach allows girls to build confidence while preparing to present their ideas on a global platform.

As one participant shared,
“I chose to work on this project because my brother is affected by sickle cell disease. I want to use technology to help families like mine and make a real difference.”

Creating Pathways for the Future

Beyond the competition, the program is creating long-term opportunities for young girls to engage in technology, pursue education in STEM fields, and develop skills relevant to the future of work.

The results are already visible. Several teams advanced to the semi-finals in last year’s Technovation competition, demonstrating what is possible when girls are given access to the right environment and support.

We are grateful for the continued support from Technovation, as well as our donors, volunteers, and staff who make this work possible

Continuing the Work

Empowering girls with access to technology is essential to building more inclusive and resilient communities.

Support the Next Girl in Tech

Programs like this provide access to training, mentorship, and real-world opportunities for young girls to innovate and lead.

You can support our work by donating, volunteering, or sharing opportunities that expand access to mentorship, innovation, and career pathways.

Together, we are shaping the next generation of women in technology.

Education becomes transformational when students are given both the opportunity to learn and the confidence to lead.
